Utopia (2018)
Utopia is a project from the University of Ghent. They aim to create a testing ground with art and science for children.
During the summer of 2018, artists and scientists tour through Ghent with a mobile studio full of artistic and scientific material. Their mission is clear: to let the youngest inhabitants of the different neighborhoods taste 'the beauty' of art and science and to make them more enthusiastic.
Every researcher - who can be both an artist and a scientist - has developed specific ways of looking at the world, of searching and doing research. During Utopia we want to explore together with the children different research methods and techniques.
During two days I participated as a researcher. I invited the children to look for patterns and taught them about motif and ways of repeating. They were able to explore different techniques that lead to pattern and print: frottage, folding and cutting, puzzling etc.
